Meet Our Authors, Paula Bucciol
Paula Bucciol
Author of the City ABC Book series, ABCs of Amsterdam (2021) & ABCs of London (Spring 2025)
In a nutshell, what's your book about? Who should read it? My books are guidebooks written for young readers and their families to help them explore Amsterdam (or London) and discover its history, culture, and uniqueness beyond the more touristy landmarks.
Why did you write a book? I believe that the more you know about a place the more you will appreciate it. The Amsterdam book was born from the idea of helping families who move to Amsterdam to feel more at home by introducing them to local traditions, language, history.
What made you decide to self-publish? As a first-time author, I thought that self-publishing would grant me freedom to experiment with this project, without much investment.
Which services did you use at Storyhouse Works? Editing, proofreading, promotion, and press release. I also received some great tips about setting up for digital distribution on different channels than the ones I had been using.
What’s something that surprised you about the self-publishing process? What did you learn? I self-published via KDP. Sometimes such self-publishing platforms can be mistaken as limited to just selling online, but I have learnt that they can open to offline opportunities, too.
What advice to you have for those looking to self-publish a book? Any tips or tricks you’d like to share? Self-publishing requires a good deal of marketing and promotion efforts, so ironing out a strategy (and starting well before publication day) is a key element for a successful book launch and sales.
What's next for you? The upcoming publication of another book, the second of my City ABC Books, The ABCs of London.
