When: Wednesday, July 8, 2026, 18:30 - 20:30 Where: The American Book Center - Amsterdam (Spui 12)
No, not that kind of writer’s block. The inspiring kind, where our writing community gets together to catch up, connect and yes, party!
Our summer celebration features writers and teachers who talk about their plans and what they have to offer you this coming fall to help you write your novel, edit your screenplay, craft your travel essay, pitch your magazine feature, get your academic paper rolling or simply write for everyday life.
The evening’s highlights will include:
📚 Meet the writers: Several writers, includingBen Coates, best-selling author of (most recently) The Invention of Amsterdam: A History of Europe’s Greatest City in Ten Walks, will talk about how to get published and share their latest works.
🧑🏫 Meet the maestros: Several representatives of writing schools, teachers and writers (often all three in one) will give short pitches of what they can do to advance — or kickstart — your writing pursuits. They include: - Sarah Carriger of the International Writers’ Collective - Writing teacher Matthew Curlewis, founder of Amsterdam Writers - Writing coach Daniel Cecil of Honing House - Self-publishing guru Hannah Huber from Storyhouse Works
🍷 Networking Over Wine and Bites: Mix, mingle, and maybe meet the agent, editor, or creative partner who will help you take your next steps.
As Amsterdam’s independent bookstore since 1972, we’re honored to be a hub for creatives, educators and dreamers alike. They say, "It takes a village," and we’d love for you to be part of ours. There’s no charge for attendance, but we need to know how many people will be coming.
Please note: this special Summer edition is open to all, but the September edition will be invite-only, as per usual. You'll be able to sign up to our invite mails for future Writers' Nights at the event.
